Recently, God has called our family to join the efforts of the missionaries working in the Sierra Madre in Mexico. My wife and I will be useful in several areas, to include agriculture, food production, and aviation, all of which will fall under the overarching goal of relationship-based evangelism. And, of course, we hope to provide valuable help as we focus on teaching churches how to sing Psalms and hymns.
Spanish Psalms and Hymns
It is a sad fact that good psalters and hymnals are difficult to come by in the Spanish language, and practically nonexistent in the Tarahumara language. In the course of my lifetime, I hope to learn these languages and write meaningful lyrics using them. The current available hymns in these languages are either written in the modern contemporary style (thanks to America’s modern influence) or written in an emotive, feminine style (once again, partly thanks to America’s straying influence).
Below is a Spanish Psalm set to meter by a missionary friend and sung in the traditional style by my wife and I. Many of our native Spanish speaking acquaintances have enjoyed this, and we hope to produce many more in the future.
